Natural Acne Treatment
If you don't like the thought of developing side effects from
powerful acne medications a natural acne treatment can be a good option
to consider. However, there has been very little scientific research
conducted into whether any natural treatments actually work. Most
research into possible acne cures and treatments is funded by drug
companies so most of the research focuses on medicated synthetic
treatments rather than those you can prepare yourself with inexpensive
natural ingredients. Don’t expect instant results from a natural
acne treatment, some treatments may take several weeks before they have
any effect.
Acidophilus:
Acidophilus is a good bacteria that usually lives in the intestines, it
helps to fight against bad bacteria that can be harmful to your health.
Medicated acne treatments such as antibiotics can decrease the number
of good bacteria within the intestines increasing the possibility of
disease (acne included). Studies have shown that acidophilus
supplementation can assist with many illnesses and help to fight acne
bacteria internally.
Zinc:
Zinc is a mineral that helps with the healing of tissue as well as
helping with scar prevention. Zinc is also helps the body to resist
infection and inflammation. However, high doses of zinc are toxic, so
avoid taking more than 100mg per day. Some people find their acne
improves within three weeks, but allow 14 weeks before you examine its
effectiveness.
Tea Tree Oil:
Tea tree oil is a natural antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal,
antiviral and antimicrobial agent. It is ideal for applying to directly
to blemishes with a cotton bud or you can dilute it with water and
splash it over your face. You can also add a few drops into a basin of
hot water and use it as a steam bath for your face. Tea tree oil can be
quite potent, so always dilute it if you have sensitive skin. The Body
Shop has a great range of tea tree oil products.
Ice Cubes:
This natural acne treatment only works on pimples that haven’t surfaced
or formed into a whitehead yet. As soon as you feel a pimple forming
take an ice cube wrapped in plastic wrap and hold it on the spot where
you feel it is about to form. Hold it there for several minutes and try
and repeat this several times during the day.
Herbs:
An herbal blend that can help with acne consists of equal parts of the
herbal extracts of sarsaparilla, yellow dock, burdock, and cleavers.
These herbs are believed to be potent blood and lymph cleansers. Half a
teaspoon per day of this blend can be taken three times per day
combined with a healthy diet.
Spot application of tea tree oil to erupted blemishes can help to eliminate bacteria and reduce inflammation.
Bodywork:
Massage is often recommended for people with skin problems. It can help
to increase circulation and lymphatic drainage and speed the healing of
blemishes.
Stress Reduction:
Yoga, exercise, breathing techniques, biofeedback, massage, and meditation may be beneficial.
