Preventing Back and Chest Acne
Back and chest acne is a condition that can really knock the
self-esteem, and can dictate where you go, what you do, and what you
wear, as well as how you feel. For example, some people with chest acne
wouldn't dare venture on to the beach in a skimpy vest or bikini. Those
with chest acne may not want to exercise at the gym, in case the
clothes they wear show off the acne or it is seen in the showers. The
confidence can take a real battering from chest acne, and even being
seen in the altogether by a partner can become a nightmare. Your chest
acne may be caused by hormonal imbalance, friction during exercise, or
even by the clothes that you wear.
Back acne and other
body acne can be tougher to treat than facial acne, and more expensive
because there is a larger area to cover. So it is better to preventing
before suffering.
In the shower, use your fingers or a
body brush to gently rub a 2% salicylic acid cleanser into your skin
(available at drugstores). After showering, use only a noncomedogenic
body lotion. During the day, wear loose-fitting, breathable fabrics,
like linen and cotton. At night, dab a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment
onto body blemishes. If you don't see results after four weeks, ask a
dermatologist about getting a prescription oral antibiotic or a topical
cream to accelerate the clearing process.
