Type of AcneThere are many different types of Acne. The most common type is Acne Vulgaris which is also known as Acne Simplex. Cystic AcneCystic acne is the ugly sister of the acne family. It is the most severe type that forms large painful boil-like eruptions under the skin, usually on the face. Not only does it lead to scarring but it can also be extremely painful. Baby AcneWhat is baby acne? "Baby acne" is a general term to describe three different types of acne in newborns and infants. The first is neonatal milia which are like multiple tiny whiteheads on the face of newborns. This is an extremely common condition and nearly half of all newborns will have some degree of neonatal milia. True neonatal acne appears at birth or shortly after and looks more like teenage acne with more typical pimples. It is thought to be due to hormonal stimulation, but this typically resolves on its own after a few weeks or months. Infantile acne occurs usually at 3-4 months and looks like regular acne with blackheads, whitehead, pimples and pustules. This type of acne may last 2 to 3 years. A strong family history is often associated with infantile acne. Body AcneAcne is common on the back (bacne), chest, shoulders, and even buttocks of many people. It can be a sign of more severe acne when the lesions are large and painful. Personally, when I had bacne it was moderate to severe. I found that accutane was the only thing to help clear it up. Acne RosaceaAcne rosacea is a chronic acneiform disorder affecting both the skin and the eye. It is a syndrome of undetermined etiology characterized by both vascular and papulopustular components involving the face and occasionally the neck and upper trunk. Clinical findings are usually limited to the sun exposed areas of the face and chest and include mid facial erythema, telangiectasias, papules and pustules, and sebaceous gland hypertrophy. Rosacea is characterized by episodic flushing of affected areas, which may be associated with consumption of alcohol, hot drinks, or spicy foods. During inflammatory episodes, affected areas of the skin, primarily the convexities of the face, develop swelling, papules, and pustules. The skin lesions are notable for the absence of comedones, which distinguishes this disorder from acne vulgaris. Rhinophyma is a late finding. Acne VulgarisBackground:Acne vulgaris is a common skin disease that affects 85-100% of people at some time during their lives. It is characterized by noninflammatory follicular papules or comedones and by inflammatory papules, pustules, and nodules in its more severe forms. Acne vulgaris affects the areas of skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back.Related Articles |
